BOLLYWOOD actress and model Riya Sen will be joined by designers from around the world at Bahrain Fashion Week 09. The three-day event kicks off at Moda Mall in the Bahrain World Trade Centre on Thursday. It wills cabinet work by local and global designers until May 30. Among those displaying their creations in the Emerging Talent section will be graduating fashion students from the Royal University for Women. In addition to catwalks, there will be fashion-related seminars offering an imminent into the worldwide fashion industry.

“Our main objective of the occasion is to position Bahrain as a key performer in the international fashion arena and set the pace for local talent to compete on the global stage,” said organizers at Lotus Pi Events Bahrain.
“The fashion business is a billion-dollar one and through BFW 2009, we plan to generate career opportunities for young Bahrainis in the business.”
Young Bahraini designer Khaleda Rajab will open the occasion.
Fashion houses counting Tommy Hilfiger, Von Dutch, Nine West, Aldo, Basler and Kenneth Cole are attractive part. International designers comprise Larisa Katz (the Netherlands), Andre Tan (Ukraine), Omar Mansoor (the UK), Monica Paracha with Ali and Ajjo (Pakistan), Sarv Atelier – Rohit Verma and Sanjeev Anand (India), Al Zain Jewellery, Layers, Devji, Fustani.
“By providing a venue for this year’s event, we hope to provide a stage for international, local and regional participants to present their collections to worldwide and regional buyers, media, fashion professionals and enthusiasts,” said Bob Addison, country director of DTZ – the running and leasing agent for the mall.
The event will run from 6pm to 10pm daily.
Tickets cost BD10 for a day or BD25 for all three days. VIP tickets cost BD25 and BD50 only.
An exhibition will run next to the event at Les Palmes, in the Sheraton Hotel, from 4pm to 10pm. Entry to the exhibition is free.
