Coco Rocha is a professional Canadian Irish dancer twisted supermodel. She is from Richmond, British Columbia. People often think she is from Vancouver, British Columbia, but only her primary agency, Charles Stuart, was based there.
She was exposed at the age of 14 when competing in an Irish dance competition at Expo ’02 in Switzerland. Agent Charles Stuart approached her & asked her if she would consider modeling for him. At that point, she had never thought of modeling before. When she did start to model, her knowledge of fashion was limited. She finally gained insight into the fashion world after her best friends crammed in fashion study sessions in between studying for exams. She met Steven Meisel in February 2006. She was featured in an editorial with Gemma Ward & Amanda Moore. The editorial column kickstarted her career, landing her the cover of the February 2006 Italian Vogue cover. The week after she walked the Spring/Summer 2006 New York runways for a handful of designers, most notably Anna Sui & Marc Jacobs. Backstage at the Anna Sui show, she met supermodel Naomi Campbell, who held her hands & told her she was “her new favorite model.” After the New York Fashion Week, she soon followed it by taking part in the Paris Fashion Week as well. She walked for more top designers like Stella McCartney, Christian Lacroix, Emanuel Ungaro, & was chosen by Marc Jacobs to open & close the Louis Vuitton show. Currently she is featured in campaigns for Christian Lacroix & Balenciaga.
Coco Rocha is truly a model media darling. Her practice of Irish step dancing has endeared her to not only the jaded industry elite but to the general masses as well.
