Matches’s Notting Hill Gate store has been strike by a tornado – a Boudicca cyclone that is. The fashion label has created an in-store and window installation enthused by its Tornado-titled dress. “When I stepped into their showroom in Paris I was blown away by their imagination,” explains Bridget Cosgrave, Matches fashion and buying director, “which was why I asked them if they would reconstruct the fitting so we could show it at Matches.”
Charting the development of the Tornado dress during the year – from an early essay and web appearance through to a showcase in Paris and at the Arnhem Fashion Biennale and then a film by Ben Bannister – the idea was to create incredible beautiful but without the high-end manufacture. As such, card and paper have been used in its creation.
“It is great to be supported by Matches. It was huge to have worked with Ben Bannister and his team on the film. Both opportunities have definitely added to the journey of the dress and it has been an motivating adventure and lesson to cut and paint and then cut again to create, breakdown, reconstruct and reinstall this dress each time… and every time she changes, every time we see something new,” explains Boudicca’s Zowie Broach.
