With an obvious baby boom in the fashion world right now – models Jourdan Dunn, Heidi Klum and Gisele Bundchen are all inveterate or rumoured to be pregnant – it seems only appropriate that River Island should launch its first ever maternity line. The range, which was enthused by ’80s fashion and pop icons Debbie Harry and Grace Jones, promises to be “on trend and directional, providing energized and punk-inspired maternity attire” for fashion forward mums-to-be.

The rock-inspired fashion maternity collection, priced from £20 to £80, will trait graphic print T-shirts, grungy knits, jumpsuits, shift dresses, draped jersey tops and denim, as well as sequinned harem pants and sleek leggings with elasticized pregnancy panels.

Outerwear is an additional key part of the line, with cosy winter coats and faux fur gilets a key staple, as well as flat, upset hobnail boots making up part of the accessories section.

The collection hits River Island stores and online from 31 August.
