Every Girl Needs A Good Makeup Bag

I own massive amounts of makeup. I’m talking six Sterilite drawers full of various products that I haven’t even gotten the chance to use yet. Then there is my bathroom which is a total clusterfuck of mascara and lip gloss. It’s pretty much a disaster area. This is where Lotus comes in and saves me from storing my beauty products in ugly plastic bins.

The makeup bags from A Soft Black Star are handmade, high quality and come in a variety of cute patterns. You can even get one custom made to your specifications. I own the black and green one pictured above, and love it. It’s thin enough to fit in a purse but has enough space to hold all the makeup I need for the day, like lip gloss, mascara, blush, etc. It is the perfect size for travel.

makeup bagsI’m a hairstylist by profession, but my passion is in embroidering, sewing, painting, drawing, sculpting, baking, basically anything creative I can do with my own two hands gleaning inspiration from Japanese street fashion, gothic Lolita, steam punk, Victorian, art nouveau, art deco, British punk, silent film, burlesque, good girl art, surrealism, and anything feminine, dark, or romantically gothic. I made a pledge to myself to never again purchase mass-produced jewelry because it is potentially made in sweatshops and often lacks personality. So I started spending a lot of time on Etsy, and now every time someone compliments something I’m wearing I have to say that it either came from our handmade community or I made it myself. I think everyone notices and appreciates unique items, even when they’re dangling on a complete stranger.

I’m always crafting in my spare time, and I eventually thought to myself “why not turn something that I already love into my profession?” There were so many wonderfully gifted artisans on Etsy that gave me the encouragement I needed to open my own store, aSoftBlackStar. I started with small embroidery projects and my wrist cuffs but quickly expanded once the urge to MAKE really set in, but like all other things, it only felt like a hobby at first because I’d sell the trinkets I liked to wear. Makeup artistry became a new obsession for me, so I stitched together my first brush roll when, honestly, I just needed something to organize all my stuff. As it turns out, a lot of other people need help organizing too! Brush rolls are, hands down, my best-selling item, and it all came about by just doing something for myself. And that’s what I love about Etsy: people doing and making the things that they care about on an individual level. I’m so proud to be a part of the Etsy community where everyone understands the value of supporting artists, crafters, and the gift of handmade.
