Hey guys, party at Giorgio Armani’s runway
Giorgio Armani cut loose this season with an album that was younger and fresher than his have been in a long time. There were just a handful of jackets: one in red, white and blue hound’s-tooth; another with origami folds on the shoulders, which when worn with fluid silk, cropped pants and flat patent leather sandals, looked modern and different. Then it was party time with short poufy skirts topped with one-shouldered, geometric print tops and wide belts.
But dresses were the actual stars of the show. Colors were brilliant blue, bottle green, purple and fuchsia, and the silhouette was body mindful, with strapless bodices and above-the-knee lengths (some oddly worn over shorts) that seemed squarely aimed at the daughters of tried-and-true Armani clients.
There were lots of red carpet possibilities too, but not the crystal covered gowns we have come to suppose from Armani. An electric blue dress with a flippy skirt and a geometric patterned sequin panel down the front, and a striped, crystal-studded tube dress had serious starlet appeal.
It all fell in line with the 1980s trend that is carrying forward into spring, proving that this season, Armani is on the same fashion planet as the rest of the world and not in his own orbit.
