What Qatari women wear under their abayas. I have to admit that I was one of them when I first came to Qatar; I came thinking that I am going at that place where there’s no concept of fashion for women.one month later it turns out that they were the ones who taught the world how to dress!

Majority of the Qatari women have an excellent taste in clothes  and accessories and many are fashion Eva’s. Just because Muslims tradition and society expects them to wear an abaya, it does not mean that they do not brush their hair or that they put on the first thing they see when they wake up in the morning.

Qatari women are some of the world’s best groomed women, paying regular visits to beauty parlours, waxing body and facial hair, threading their eyebrows and getting manicures and pedicures.

Like any woman, Qatari women loved shopping.They sport bags and accessories, chic shoes and fashionable outfits under their abayas. I am always willing them to ask how they always appear so effortlessly stylish, no matter what circumstances they are under.

Under the Abaya

Two weeks before I mistakenly went to the ladies bathroom in emergency and seeing a young Qatari woman covered head to toe in black, plain abaya, which are what the most conservative and religious Qatari women wear.

So, as she removed her abaya , I was expecting to see one of those old-fashioned floral-printed long-sleeved dresses. My mouth practically dropped to the floor to see that she had blond-dyed hair and was wearing high-heeled boots and skinny jeans.

So next time you see a Qatari woman who is fully covered, please do not assume that she has no idea about fashion and style. She more than likely has better taste in fashion and style than you!

Proportion: This relates to the relative dimensions of objects in an area. It is crucial that various objects are in sync with each other and with the room in terms of proportions. Lack of proportion will cause imbalance that will negatively affect the look of the room, as some things will be over focussed while others will not get enough visibility.

Focus: High quality interior design requires a focus in the room. Focal items can be anything ranging from a furniture article to a beautiful painting or some other artistic piece. This object must make an impression on the viewer and also fall in line with the design of the rest of the room. While it should be unique, it should gel with its surroundings.

Rhythm: Having a rhythm too is very essential for attaining a good design. This means that the room must have a discernible visual pattern and clear consistency. Arches, ornate designs on walls and floors, cautiously chosen paintings, repetition of colours and designs etc will help you achieve a rhythm.

If enough attention is given to these tenets, you can be sure that the interior designing exercise will be successful. It is always advisable to take help from an interior design expert totake care of these aspects and all the nuances.

There’ll be some serious business going on too for fashion designers trying to crack this  market.

Plus, crimping is back with a retribution as seen at Erin Fetherston and Prada, but this might be one trend we’ll be giving a wide birth thanks very much, the recollections are still too aching. Finally accessories are still big news. Ranging from the simple kirby grasp to sexy, black leather bun bands, glittery animal masks, gobstopper-style hair pins and those now well-known Louis Vuitton bunny ears.
